Radiation Safety Courses
Each person working in a dentist's office who operates dental radiographic equipment must complete a Board-approved radiation safety program prior to exposing radiographs. In addition, all applicants for RDA licensure must submit evidence of having completed an approved radiation safety course, and all existing RDA licensees must do so prior to March 31, 2006 or their license will be automatically suspended.
COMDA is notified of each person's successful passage of the required course by the approved program, so that there is a record of each person's compliance with the above law. Graduates of an approved, full RDA Educational Program after January 1, 1985, are presumed to have certification in radiation safety, since it is a required portion of the educational program's curriculum.
A person who is certified in radiation safety may operate dental radiographic equipment under the general supervision of the supervising dentist.
